Plexiglass Products
Plastic glass such as plexiglass, acrylic and LEXAN, are often used in place of glass in many applications. Here are some of the reasons why you might consider them over glass.
Plexiglass vs Acrylic vs LEXAN
Plexiglass and acrylic are the same thing, they are both polymethyl methacrylate, which is a thermoplastic. Comparing the two is like comparing Kleenex and tissues. That also explains why sometimes you’ll see it spelled as Plexiglas, it’s just a trademarked version of plexiglass or acrylic glass. LEXAN, on the other hand, is a polycarbonate and a type of thermoplastic polymer. Since both products are thermoplastic, they are pliable and mouldable at higher temperatures. Additionally, they can be cut, drilled and glued much easier than glass, which makes them the perfect alternative to glass when complex shapes and designs need to be achieved.
Strength & Safety
Plexiglass and other plastic glasses are stronger and more shatter-resistance than normal glass. Even when compared with tempered safety glass, LEXAN is still way stronger when it comes to impact strength.
Weight
In terms of weight, both acrylic and LEXAN are much lighter than glass. If you need something that looks like glass but more portable, consider plastic glass.
Less Glare
Glass naturally reflects more light, so in conditions where glare is less desired, plexiglass and acrylic are better alternatives.
Commercial Display
All the factors mentioned above make plexiglass and the likes good materials for commercial displays such as shelves and showcases for stores. Instead of settling for standard, pre-designed commercial glass displays, we can make them however you like out of these plastic alternatives. If you have things at home you’d like to display, such as trophies and memorabilia, we can also make custom shelves or showcases for you. Since we also make custom wood products, we can incorporate wood into the design. To order, please get in touch with us via our contact page.
